Zomato has announced that they will start with a pilot phase from Gurugram, Haryana to deliver food in 10 minutes ensuring the safety of delivery partners is not compromised. Obviously, not all items can be delivered in 10 minutes but food items like chai, coffee, biryani, momos, etc. (basically popular standardized items that can be dispatched in 2 minutes or less)will be part of the 10 minutes delivery. But why such a fast delivery? Have customers asked for it?
Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal mentioned that the customers on zomato filters restaurants that can deliver the quickest. But does it mean customers are looking for 10 minutes delivery?
To answer this question, let's look at the grocery delivery segment. With the introduction of Zepto which promises to deliver groceries in 10 minutes in the market the business of BlinkIt or BigBasket is impacted. They are in need to implement the same business model of quick delivery of groceries.
The same reason applies to food delivery players like zomato or swiggy. If tomorrow some heavily funded startup came to business (which will happen for sure) of 10 minutes food delivery then zomato or swiggy business will be impacted. That is the reason why zomato wants to step in and wants to run a pilot to ensure their business is future-ready.
